The Alzheimer Society Of Ireland is delighted to be bringing its Sporting Memories Programme to the GAA clubs of North Dublin. The first event of its kind will be held in Na Fianna Clubhouse Mobhi Road, Glasnevin on Wednesday 5th of July at 2pm. This is a free event and light refreshments will be served.

‘Sporting Memories’ is an awareness and support programme involving using the power of reminiscence to help improve health and wellbeing, especially of people living with dementia.

The ‘Sporting Memories’ programme aims to tackle dementia, depression, and loneliness through safe, friendly sessions, led by people with a passion for sport and a desire to help people with dementia, their families and supporters stay engaged in their communities.

The Alzheimer Society of Ireland is encouraging people of all ages, including those living with dementia, to attend and reminisce about some of the county’s greatest sporting moments.

This event is suitable for everyone no matter what your involvement with the GAA was, so if you were a player, a club member/volunteer or a supporter, this event is for you. This is a free event for all to enjoy.

We encourage as many as possible, especially those living with dementia and their families, to come along and enjoy this opportunity to relive the great GAA moments from the past, to meet former stars and to enjoy being part of the GAA community once again.

The event will feature some special guests from yesteryear and there will be displays of match programmes, photographs, jerseys, and other memorabilia to enjoy.

There has been a very positive response to these events in other areas of the country so please do encourage all to attend and enjoy the experience.
