The annual Golf Classic returned this year after a break following 2020 lockdown and took place on September 20 in Donabate Golf Club. Under the steady hand of committee Chairman Pat Breen, the event had an entry of 40 sponsored teams which is a record for the Classic. From 8am to 3.30pm, teams teed-off in their quest for golfing glory.

Unfortunately, the fixing of the Senior Football Championship match on the evening of the Classic meant that our Senior Footballers were unable to attend or compete, so the field of contenders were off to a head start...

The overall winners of the Classic was the team of O’Dea’s, featuring brothers, Mark, Paul and Eoin and ably led by ‘Papa John’. Their score of 56 put them ahead of the McGowan’s team (Ian McGowan, Mick Quinn, Eoin Darling and Paul Stack) in second place and Tullamore Dew team (Ciaran and Conor Gray, John Mangan and Michael Halligan) in third.

Ladies Longest Drive was won by former Cathaoirleach Bernie Caffrey and Ladies Nearest the Pin was won by another long-standing member, Deirdre Lane. Both ladies have been regular players in the Golf Classic over the years. Men’s Longest Drive was won by hurler Sean Murphy. Probably should try out for Tom Ryan’s Puc Fada competition next year. Men’s Nearest the Pin was won by Tommy Cushen, a regular player in the Classic.

The weather and the golf course all contributed to a great day all round and raised a nice few bob for Na Fianna. Appreciation is due to all the team sponsors and to our Friends of Na Fianna Platinum and Gold sponsors who all took part in the event. Prizes were sponsored by The Duke.
