Many of Na Fianna's juvenile teams have introduced Rounders in the last few years and have played it in training and competitively. Physical distancing can be maintained easily in both training and competitive Rounders games as tackling and close marking are not components of the game. GAA Rounders is a fun, inclusive, and non-contact sport. Playing the game contributes to the player's general athletic development, and develops the player's teamwork, communication, resilience, reactions, decision making, problem-solving, power, speed, laughter, and smiles!
The GAA Rounders Foundation Course consists of two parts. Part 1 Theory (Online) and Part 2 Skills (Practical; Basic/Advanced). Completion of either the Basic or the Advanced skill practical module is required for Rounders coaching certification.
Part 1 covering coaching basics, is a 4-hour introduction to coaching course that is directly aligned with the GAA Foundation Courses for all the GAA codes. Completion of the Rounders Foundation Part 1 is not required for mentors who have completed the training for one or more of the other GAA codes. Therefore it is unnecessary for most current Na Fianna mentors to attend Part 1.
Part 1 of the Foundation Course should be completed by all interested parents and members who have not completed a GAA Foundation course. Garda Vetting and Child Protection training are also required to coach juvenile players.
Part 1 of the Rounders Foundation Course will be offered online on Saturday or in two weeknight sessions. Attendees can choose between next Saturday 27 February from 10am to 2pm (The session will end no earlier than 1pm and no later than 2pm to allow for online interaction).
Or
Next Tuesday 2 March and Thursday 4 March from 9pm to 10:30pm each night.
To register for the Part 1 online modules please send me your preferred session (Saturday or weeknights), name, email address and phone number. Send the details to Mike Lang at (michaellang593@gmail.com; 086 0268046) and I will pass your details to the Development Committee so the instructor can send you link to the online module.
Dublin based clubs are coordinating with the Ard Comhairle to schedule the 1-hour Basic and 4-hour Advanced Skills modules when the restrictions permit.
